Decking and RoofWelcome
to Bell Blog. People want more information on the status of the
construction so here we go. I'll try to update this whenever I receive
pictures or something important happens. Or I have some extra time.
Things are moving along. The roof is almost finished.
Looks like the top of the chimney needs some copper, same with the
turret, but everything else looks good. The slate is on, the copper is
in place, and it looks good.

The workers have started putting the Ipe decking on.
Ipe or Ironwood is very strong, VERY heavy, and resistant to water
damage. similar to teak or cedar only better and more expensive.
The decking in the "picnic area" will be installed
with no gap. Almost like a floor that looks like a deck. Once outside,
there will be a small gap like a normal deck.

For the upper deck outside the master bedroom, the
deck has to be removable. Notice the Ipe framework on the waterproof
membrane. This is so the membrane can be cleaned and repaired if
necessary. The actual decking will sit on top of the frame
.
